Heinz Sparks Controversy with ‘Mayochup’

Mayochup

Heinz created a Twitter poll this week asking users if they would want to see Mayochup in U.S. stores. The company agreed to sell it if 500,000 people voted in favor of the condiment. The poll now has nearly 850,000 votes in total.

While it’s still only a potential product, “Mayochup” is a blend of Heinz brand mayonnaise and ketchup to be sold in a convenient bottle. It’s already sold in some middle eastern countries, but the company is attemping to make Mayochup’s American debut.

Some Twitter users noted that where they’re from, a product like this already exists: fry sauce.

Heinz added its own two cents to this debate, arguing that “only Mayochup is made with New #Heinzmayonnaise and #Heinzketchup.”

Others thought the name “Mayochup” simply isn’t good enough, and that it should be called “Ketchunaise” instead.

Others support Heinz’s Mayochup idea.

It’s a tough call as to whether or not Mayochup should become a real thing in the U.S. Currently, 55 percent of those who took Heinz’s poll gave it a ‘yes.’
