IFC Bans Hard Liquor From MSU Fraternity Events
On Tuesday the Interfraternity Council at Michigan State voted to ban beverages above 15% alcohol at all fraternity events unless served by a licensed third party vendor.
The Lansing State Journal reports the council posted the new regulation to the MSU Fraternity and Sorority Life Facebook page on Friday.
According to Fox 47 News, The council hopes this regulation will make fraternity and sorority events safer by limiting “high-risk behavior on campus and in the community.”
The ban applies only to fraternity parties, as sororities are already prohibited, at a national level, from hosting events with alcohol purchased by the chapter. Enforcement efforts include residence checks, fines, social event probation, and action taken by chapter headquarters.
This ban comes nearly a month after the North American Interfraternity Council moved to eliminate hard liquor from fraternities across the country by Sept. 1, 2019.
According to The State News, the council predicts this band will help “foster a safer environment for everyone,” at MSU and the surrounding community.
