LSU Students Robbed By Man They Mistook For UBER Driver

Three students at LSU were robbed at knife-point after being picked up by a man they believed was an UBER driver. This happened on St. Patricks Day around 3am while the students were trying to get to the dorms on campus. When they arrived at the dorm, the driver claimed to be a taxi driver and asked for cash, and after the students procurred the cash, he took out a knife and demanded more.

UBER, along with similar rider app Lyft has things set in place to avoid the dangers of getting into the wrong car, and potentialyl finding oneself in a dangerous situation. The app includes the name, photo and license plate number of the driver who will be picking a rider up. Many UBER cars also have stickers or signs on them indicating that they are an UBER, and some signs even glow in a color of the rider’s choosing, so they don’t mistakenly get into the wrong UBER car.

It is not known if the driver’s original intentions was to pose as an UBER, or if he took the opportunity at hand. All three students escaped without any harm coming to them, and the suspect is still on the loose.
