Michael Bloomberg To Spend $80 Million on Midterm Elections

Michael R. Bloomberg, billionaire and former New York City Mayor, plans to spend at least $80 million in the 2018 midterm elections.  Using his political background, and personal fortune, Bloomberg plans to put power back into the hands of the Democratic Party.

His long term goal: Flipping 23 Republican seats over to the Democrats, in the House of Representatives, in order to win the majority.

Sources have confirmed, that Bloomberg could easily surpass his starting budget of $80 million by the end of the midterm spending season. An advocate for left-of center policies surrounding gun control, immigration and the environment, could be exactly what Democrats need. Up until this point, Republicans had many of the financial dynamics in their favor; however Bloomberg’s generous support could easily flip the scale.

It’s important to note, as a new team forms between Bloomberg and congressional Democrats, it puts New York and its political leaders at the center of the midterm campaign, with many other from the city, including the President himself. The financial spending serves as a response from the Democrats regarding the consistent flow of money coming from supporters of right. It’s important that the Democrats assert themselves early in the race; building off of a strong foundation.

“Over the years, I have supported candidates in both parties who were willing to break with partisanship and the special interests and seek common ground around solutions to make America better. I’ve focused my philanthropy partly around bipartisan gun safety, environmental and immigration reform measures, and my political giving has been focused around those priorities as well,” said Bloomberg in a statement. “…Republicans, who control both houses of Congress, have done little to reach across the aisle to craft bipartisan solutions — not only on guns and climate change, but also on jobs, immigration, health care and infrastructure. As a result, Congress has accomplished very little… And so this fall, I’m going to support Democrats in their efforts to win control of the House.”
