New Opinion Polling Shows Majority Support for Progressive Polices

A new nationwide poll from Reuters has recently shown that a majority of Americans from both parties are increasingly becoming supportive of progressive policies, especially those espoused by politicians such as Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders and liberal grassroots activists.

According to the poll conducted between June and July of 2018, support for a Medicare For All single-payer universal health care system, similar to that of Taiwan’s, is at an all-time high amongst both major political party voters. More than 84% of self-identified Democrats or Democratic Party voters support Medicare for All and more than 51% of self-identified Republicans or Republican Party voters also support the universal healthcare policy. More than 70% of total voters support the healthcare policy.

When asked about supporting or opposing tuition-free public colleges and universities, more than 78% of Democrats supporting universal higher education and a relatively rising minority of Republicans supporting the policy with about 41% in favor.

As for the rise of calls to abolish the federal immigration agency ICE or Immigration Customs Enforcement in the wake of the recent child migrant crisis and the increase in xenophobia, 44% of Democrats agree with the abolishment and 43% want it to remain. Only 20% of Republicans want to abolish ICE and 70% want the agency to remain in place.

With the rise of progressive grassroots organizations such as the Democratic Socialists of America, Our Revolution, and Justice Democrats, support for progressive policies could gain more ground in public support.
