Nikki Haley Fires Back at White House for Calling Her ‘Confused’

Some drama came out of the White House Sunday night after Larry Kudlow, the National Economic Council Director called Nikki Haley, the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations “confused” for saying that the U.S. was going to be leveling new sanctions against Russia by Monday. Haley fired back at the statement, telling CNN’s Jake Tapper, “with all due respect, I don’t get confused.”

It does seem that President Trump is not ready to issue any new sanctions against Russia at this time. White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders confirmed that the President was “considering additional sanctions against Russia” but that nothing had been decided yet. Furthermore, some senior White House officials confirmed that at the time of Haley’s statement, the President hadn’t signed off on any new sanctions.

Kudlow ultimately apologized to Haley for saying that she was “confused,” telling The New York Times, “as it turns out, she was basically following what she thought was policy. The policy was changed and she wasn’t told about it, so she was in a box.” Another important thing to note is that the White House did send out information to surrogates on Saturday saying that they had decided to take action against Moscow, indicating that the President may have abruptly rescinded the sanctions after Haley’s statement.
