Penn State’s THON Raises Over $10 Million
Penn State’s annual THON dance marathon topped the $10 million mark this year, bringing in a total of $10,151,663.93 for Four Diamonds at Penn State Children’s Hospital. Much of the funding will go towards fighting pediatric cancer.
THON is the largest student-run philanthropy in the world according to the school, and since 1977, has raised more than $146 million for the Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital.
707 dancers, including 100 independent couples, stood for 46 hours over the weekend, and thousands of volunteers played a part in the effort across Penn State’s campuses.
According to Thon officials, per the York Daily Record, the $10 million can support:
- 50,758 hours of nutritional therapy
- 67,678 days of out-patient treatment
- 13,536 lab experiments
- 6,768 days for a team to manage all patient needs
- 13,536 routine maintenance visits for treatment and therapy for a child
