Podcast Review: ‘The Future Beats Show’

As part of our ongoing Music Journalism Course, our music team was asked to choose, listen to and write a reaction to an episode of a music podcast.

The Future Beats Show podcast is an EDM and lo-fi hip-hop mixture of new mixes and songs. These podcasts are all put together by London DJ Complexion, and so far he has made 199 episodes.

All of the episodes can be found on Soundcloud and Mixcloud to listen to for free. Each episode runs for about two hours and contains little to no talking and lyrics. Each episode runs for about two hours and contains almost no narration or lyrics.

If you are looking for relaxing background music, The Future Beats Show is the podcast for you. Each episode contains a variety of new music that Complexion puts together. This podcast makes me want to go to the beach and sprawl out on a towel. The songs are calming and make you feel at ease.

It’s the perfect playlist to put on when you’re studying, working, cooking, or just trying to listen to relaxing new music. There is a consistent beat that keeps rhythm and tempo, which keeps you focused on the task at hand, but able to enjoy the music.

The host of the show, Complexion, does a fantastic job at putting the song list in order and giving the names and descriptions of the upcoming songs.

He’s extremely appreciative of his fans that listen to the podcast and always gives them a shoutout in each episode. He keeps his talking short and sweet and keeps his fans updated on upcoming events he’s working.
