Former Temple University Fraternity President Arrested for Attempted Rape

Ari Goldstein, former president of Temple University’s chapter of Alpha Epsilon Pi, was arrested on Tuesday for attempted rape. The arrest comes less than a month after the fraternity was suspended due to sexual assault allegations.

Goldstein, 21, has been charged with indecent assault, attempted rape, attempted sexual assault, and attempted involuntary deviate sexual intercourse from an alleged incident on February 25th, according to court records obtained by Philadelphia Magazine.

Goldstein’s arrest comes after police said they received multiple reports of sexual assault, underage and excessive drinking, and possible drug use at parties at the Alpha Epsilon Pi house.

Last month, Temple University suspended the fraternity due to a campus police investigation of at least two sexual assaults of Temple students, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Philadelphia police said that last month, at least three women had come forward with sexual assault allegations regarding Alpha Epsilon Pi earlier this year. One woman said that she was sexually assaulted at a party in February, while a second woman said she was given several drinks at a party at the fraternity in March. At least two of the three women were 19 years old.

Goldstein was arraigned on Wednesday and is being held on $2 million bail. A preliminary hearing has been set for May 31.
