Judge That Gave Brock Turner His Easy Sentence Recalled

Santa Clara County Superior Court Judge Aaron Persky, who charged former Stanford University swimmer Brock Turner to only six months in jail for sexually assaulting an unconscious woman has been recalled.

According to Santa Clara’s primary election results, 59 percent of the county’s voters favored recalling Persky and 41 percent opposed the recall. Persky is the first California jurist recalled from the bench in 86 years.

Voters were not happy with the lenient decision of someone who committed such horrific acts. However, the judge cited Turner’s age, as well as the fact that both he and the victim were drunk and that prison time could have a “severe” impact on Turner’s life, as the reasoning behind the lenient six-month sentence. Turner only spent three months in prison due to good behavior.
