Editor’s Note: As part of CMN’s music journalism program, we asked our team of music writers to come up with a list of some of their favorite (music) things.

1) Angus Young: AC/DC

It’s a long way to the top if you wanna rock ‘n’ roll, and Angus Young and his three cords are a simple yet contagious tune.

2) Billy Gibbons: ZZ Top

The sharped dressed man of hard rock and blues, Gibbons can quite literally make his guitar talk through hits like “Sharp Dressed Man” and “Gimme All Your Lovin.”

3) Randy Rhoads: Quiet Riot, Ozzy Osbourne

Rhoads, was instantly a hit with his prowess on the electric guitar. “Laughing Gas” is one of the most listened to guitar solos of all time. A guitar made the song.

4) Jimi Hendrix

The Merman he should turn to be was one of the slickest, and most intoxicating guitarists in history. Through his effects, and guitar notes, he made himself an icon.

5) Eddie Van Halen

“Eruption” says it all: an explosion of guitar play, which needed no support. Just a guitar and an amplifier.

6) Dave Mustaine: Megadeth

A “Symphony of Destruction” left an imprint in metal, and the hands of Mr. Mustaine are all over the formation of Metallica, too.

7) Dimebag Darrell: Pantera

Riffs that could go on for day and never get boring, an unforgettable guitarist who left the earth too soon.

8) Eric Clapton

“Layla,” one of his all-time greats, set the bar high for a whole generation of guitarists.

9) Brian May: Queen

Dynamic, and powerful giving wonderful support to Queen. He created a new arena style.

10) Slash: Guns ‘N’ Roses

“Paradise City” an electric guitar that will take you on a journey. Get ready to rock!
