Trump vs. Bezos: The President Wants War

recode.net

President Donald Trump is infamous for taking to Twitter to make statements or express his feelings toward certain figureheads. Lately, he’s out to get Amazon and its founder, Jeff Bezos.

In a series of tweets on April 2nd, Trump began his rant against Bezos by saying, “Only fools, or worse, are saying that our money losing Post Office makes money with Amazon. THEY LOSE A FORTUNE, and this will be changed. Also, our fully tax paying retailers are closing stores all over the country…not a level playing field!”

Trump followed this tweet with another this morning, posting:

According to an article by Vanity Fair, Amazon’s stock has dropped by at least five percent now after these tweets were published. Bezos, who also serves as the CEO of Amazon, has suffered a decrease in his own net worth, too. An article published by Time confirms that Bezos net worth has dropped from $130 billion to $114 billion in just one week after the tweets were published.

Part of this backlash toward Amazon on Trump’s end could be due in part to the fact that, besides owning Amazon, Bezos also owns The Washington Times. Trump has been known to ridicule The Washington Times and is not in favor of it.

Nothing more has been said on Twitter, but it’s clear that Trump isn’t quite finished with Amazon or Bezos.
