Uber Adds 911 Emergency Assistance Button During Rides

Uber is officially launching 911 technology, and many other safety features announced back in April, of this year.

Riders are now noticing, they are having a feature called the “Safety ToolKit” containing a list of trusted contacts to alert about your travel plans.

A 911 button will be available to all riders. In the coming months, the app will offer a similar safety tool to dial law enforcement directly.

A pilot with RapidSOS, Uber can give even more precise information about your location and the type of vehicle you’re in when calling about an emergency. The first cities to test the in-app feature are Denver; Charleston; South Carolina; Nashville, Tenn.; Chattanooga, Tenn.; Naples, Florida; Tri-Cities, Tennessee; and Louisville, Kentucky.

According to CNET, “Users have told us, ‘Something to give me peace of mind is a way to access emergency features,'” Sachin Kansal, Uber’s head of safety products, said in a phone interview. “We are making this very accessible right from the home screen.”
