Wednesday Scoop: Would They or Wouldn’t They?
Welcome to the Morning Scoop for July 18, 2018. We’re still trying to figure out what really happened during that Helsinki summit, so if you have any ideas, let us know.

Would They or Wouldn’t They?
After facing a wave of bipartisan fury for his comments after the Helsinki summit, President Trump said he had misspoken during his news conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
CNN reports that Trump “said that when he returned Monday from the summit with Putin in Helsinki, Finland, he ‘realized there is some need for clarification’ about his remarks on Russian interference in the 2016 US election. ‘In a key sentence in my remarks I said the word “would” instead of “wouldn’t,”’ the President said Tuesday. He explained he had reviewed a transcript and video of his remarks.”
In his original comment, Trump said “I don’t see any reason why it would be Russia.” He also singled out one critic, former CIA Director John Brennan, as a “very bad person” after Brennan said the president’s remarks were “nothing short of treasonous.”
10 Black Washington University Students Falsely Accused of Leaving IHOP Without Paying
The Clayton, Mo. Police Department has issued an apology after its police officers falsely accused a group of Washington University students of not paying for their meal at an IHOP restaurant last week.
Even though some of the 10 incoming freshmen had receipts showing they had paid for their meals, Clayton police officers made all of students walk three blocks back to the restaurant, with six squad cards following them.

Thai Soccer Team Released From the Hospital
12 soccer players who were trapped in a cave for more than two weeks are headed home after they were released from a hospital in Thailand earlier today.
Ekapol Chanthawong, the 25-year-old coach who was with the boys when they were trapped in the cave, also made an appearance. A few of the boys tested positive for minor lung infections, but they all were given clean bills of health.
Saman Kunan, a former Thai navy SEAL, died during the rescue attempt. The boys have prayed for him and expressed their gratitude to everyone who worked to rescue them.
