Thursday Scoop: America’s Best Beaches

It’s Thursday, May 23. President Trump, tornadoes and beaches are in the headlines this morning. Here’s what you need to know.

Presidential anger. For the second time in three days, a judge has refused to block a House subpoena asking for President Trump’s financial records. CNN reports, “Judge Edgardo Ramos in New York on Wednesday refused to block subpoenas from the House Intelligence and Financial Services panels for Trump’s financial records from Deutsche Bank and Capital One.” The president’s lawyers will likely appeal to a higher court.

Also yesterday, the President cut a meeting with Democrats short, saying he would not work with the party until their congressional investigations were dropped.

Deadly tornadoes in Missouri. At least three people were killed yesterday when tornadoes ripped through Missouri, hitting the capital, Jefferson City, and Joplin, where three people were confirmed dead.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency sent Missouri Task Force 1, an urban search and rescue team, to assist with recovery efforts, KOMU reported.

America’s Best Beaches. Stephen Leatherman, the professor known as Dr. Beach, has released his annual list of the best beaches in America, with Kailua Beach Park in Hawaii topping the list. The Associated Press reports, “Leatherman uses 50 criteria to evaluate beaches, with the most important categories being water cleanliness, safety and management of the beach environment and its facilities.”
