Wednesday Scoop: Tornadoes, Socialism and the Stanley Cup
It’s Wednesday, May 22, 2019. Severe weather, hockey and socialism are in the news this morning. Here’s what you need to know.
Spring tornadoes rage. A torrent of tornadoes struck the central U.S. yesterday, a region already dealing with heavy flooding. CNN reports, “There were at least 30 preliminary reports of tornadoes in the central US on Tuesday, most of the twisters occurring in Kansas and Missouri.” 130 tornadoes have been reported this week, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
Socialism on the rise? A recent Gallup public opinion survey shows 43% of American adults embrace some form of socialism compared to 51% of American adults who believe that socialism is bad for the United States. The survey, in which 1,024 adults aged 18 years old or older participated, also showed that only 6% of American adults had no opinion about socialism.
The rise is noticeable especially amongst young people between the ages of 18 and 35.
Stanley Cup Reunion. The Boston Bruins and St. Louis Blues will meet in this year’s Stanley Cup Finals, a rematch of the 1970 series. The Blues finished off the San Jose Sharks last night and will appear in the finals for the first time since Bobby Orr and Boston swept them 49 years ago
