MSU President Resigns Following Comments About Nassar’s Victims
Michigan State University interim President John Engler resigned Wednesday after he claimed that the victims of ex-MSU and USA Gymnastic sports doctor Larry Nasser were “enjoying” the spotlight. Engler’s firing comes a year after the sentencing hearing of Nassar began in which more than 150 victims testified, describing the sexual abuse crimes Nassar committed against them. A judge handed Nassar a sentence of up to 175 years in prison.
Engler delivered his 11-page resignation letter highlighting his accomplishments as Interim President over the last year, including giving students access to 24-hour counseling services. Although on paper Engler’s work as President over the last year seems admirable, he was never a favorite among many faculty and students.
