Thursday Morning Scoop: This Is America
Welcome to the Morning Scoop for May 10, 2018. Americans have been released from under the thumb of Kim Jong Un. We’re also really excited about the new body-positivity organization at the University of Wyoming, but that’s another thing.

Three Americans Freed By North Korea
President Trump welcomed home three American detainees early this morning after they were released from North Korea. The Americans — Kim Dong Chul, Kim Hak-song, and Kim Sang Duk, who also goes by Tony Kim — were freed Wednesday while Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was visiting the North Korean Capital of Pyongyang to discuss the upcoming summit with Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
Speaking to the media at Joint Base Andrews Air Force Base, Kim Dong Chul said his release felt “like a dream.” President Trump, accompanied by wife Melania, told reporters it was “nice” of Kim Jong Un to release the men prior to the summit. “Frankly we didn’t think this was going to happen… it’s a very important thing to all of us to be able to get these three great people out,” he continued.
The three men were expected to go to the Walter Reed Medical Center in Maryland for further evaluation and medical treatment, according to the White House Press Secretary Lindsay Walters.
University of Wyoming Creates Body Positivity Organization
University of Wyoming students have joined together to create an organization called Real Women, Real Bodies (RWRB) in efforts to spread positivity throughout campus.
Concerned about the representation of women in the media, Sydney Stein began the organization about five years ago. Since its inception, RWRB holds campaigns and events on campus focusing on helping others to love their bodies.
Julian Dickie, president of RWRB, explained how the first photo campaign “portrayed nude female volunteer students on campus, just to accurately represent female bodies.”
Members of RWRB also organized a concert and panel discussion focused on the representation of LGBTQI+ and female bodies in music. A band even came to discuss their experience with music and representation. Later, the band performed to close out the event.

Nordstrom Rack Company President Apologizes for Racial Profiling
Last week at a St. Louis Nordstrom Rack, three African American teens were racially profiled and wrongfully accused of stealing in a St. Louis store.
Dirone Taylor, Mekhi Lee, and Eric Rogers were shopping at Nordstrom Rack for prom clothing when they noticed employees watching their every move. Lee told ABC News, “I was nervous. I was most definitely embarrassed.”
The teens left the store, but later returned when they realized Lee had left his hat behind. Upon returning, a customer approached Rogers accusing him of stealing leading him to believe the staff was talking about them during the brief period they left the store.
Abby Goss has all of the details in her report for CMN.

Last But Not Least: ‘This is America’
Thirty-four year old musician Donald Glover, also known by his stage name Childish Gambino, was the Internet’s greatest fascination this past weekend. Glover was the host and musical guest on Saturday Night Live, where he performed his new song “This is America”. The subsequently released music video sparked a great deal of conversation due to its graphic depictions of violence against African-Americans throughout the country’s history.
Roxanneh Mousavi has more details about this jaw-dropping video in her report.
