Georgia Could Have the Nation’s First Black, Female Governor
Stacey Abrams won the Georgia Democratic primary’s gubernatorial race Tuesday, becoming the country’s first black woman to hold a major party’s nomination for governor. If she wins in November, she will become the nation’s first black, female governor.
CNN reports, “The former state House minority leader defeated former state Rep. Stacey Evans, who ran a campaign that tried to appeal to moderates and independent voters.”
Meanwhile, no one in the Republican race holds a majority, which could force a one-on-one runoff on July 24 of the top two candidates. Duane Paul Murphy has more on the groundbreaking primaries in his CMN report.
Parents Turn to Court to Get 30-Year-Old Son to Move Out
A New York judge has sided with the parents of a 30-year-old man who want him to move out of their home. Michael Rotondo, who reportedly moved back home eight years ago, argued he was legally entitled to live with his family for another six months. The judge called that statement ‘outrageous’ and ordered his eviction.
Christina and Mark Rotondo had served their son five notices of eviction and even offered him money and help to find a new place to live. “I just wanted a reasonable amount of time to vacate, with consideration to the fact that I was not really prepared to support myself at the time of the notices,” Michael told CNN affiliate WSTM.
NFL Could Impose 15-Yard Penalties for Kneeling During the Anthem
NFL owners had a meeting on Tuesday, reportedly to consider a new punishment for players who choose to kneel during the national anthem. Under the proposal, the home team would decide whether or not both teams are on the field for the anthem, and if so, 15-yard penalties would be handed out to anyone who kneels.
