Friday Morning Scoop: DO U CARE?
Welcome to the Morning Scoop for June 22. We applaud Melania for her efforts to reconcile the situation at the border, whether subliminal or not. But we’re more excited that the first lady wears clothing from Zara that only costs $39.
Yesterday, our team of student journalists told us why Angela Davis’ commencement speech at Bryn Mawr was important. They also followed the details of XXXTentacion’s death.
Melania Trump Visits Migrant Children on Southern Border
In an unannounced trip yesterday, First Lady Melania Trump paid a visit to immigrant children being kept in relocation centers in Texas. According to Bloomberg, the visit reflects an effort to clean up her husband’s self-made PR disaster revolving around separating families at the border.
The first lady’s spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham reported that Melania proposed the trip herself, and found it to be a crucial part of learning about the issue. Melania met with both children and staff at the New Hope Children’s Center, run with funding from the U.S. Refugee Resettlement Center.
But the most buzzworthy part of the trip came from Melania’s outfit choice. While boarding the plane, photographers noticed that the first lady’s jacket, purchased from the mainstream clothing retailer Zara, had huge while letters on the back: “I REALLY DON’T CARE, DO U?” Many have been quick to comment that Melania was trying to send a message to reporters that she does not agree with her husband’s stance on this issue.
President Trump was quick to clarify the situation on Twitter. He wrote, “‘I REALLY DON’T CARE, DO U?’ written on the back of Melania’s jacket, refers to the Fake News Media. Melania has learned how dishonest they are, and she truly no longer cares!”
Conservative Figure Charles Krauthammer Dies at 68
Charles Krauthammer, a Harvard-trained psychiatrist and Fox News commentator, passed away yesterday at the age of 68.
On June 8, Krauthammer publicized a letter announcing that he was suffering from an aggressive form of cancer, and that he would only have a few weeks left to live. His colleagues at Fox News, although not surprised about his death because of the warning, are still mourning his loss. His conservative perspective won him a Pulitzer Prize for Commentary in 1987 and a National Magazine Award in 1984.
Aside from being a mainstay conservative figure, Krauthammer was also famous for his work in psychiatry. He won the Edward Dunlop Prize for excellence in research, and used his skills to relate human interaction to politics.
He will be greatly missed for his confident commentary and extraordinary journalistic skills.
Northeastern University To Give Echo Dots To Students
This fall, Northeastern University is giving students the option of receiving an Echo Dot that can answer questions about student life at the college.
The Echo Dots will be customized with an Alexa skill, designed by tech startup n-Powered, that will allow students to ask basic questions, such as their class schedule, how much money they have on their food cards, or how much they owe for tuition, according to Fortune.
Northeastern is hoping the introduction of the Echo Dots will reduce the amount of questions it routinely gets from students, in turn decreasing the time students would have to wait on hold for answers.

Today in a Tweet: It’s Bring Your Dog to Work Day!
Puppy-lovers rejoice, because you might see several dogs at your place of work today. If you don’t have work, just hope that wherever you go today there are other people who brought *their* dogs to work.
Last But Not Least: Meet The Youngest Green Candidate Running for Congress
One candidate is running to represent California’s 34th Congressional District, a Democratic majority area, and wants to bring a progressive grassroots voice to Washington, D.C. this November in the form of an alternative third party choice. Kenneth Mejia, a 27-year-old account from the district’s downtown area, is running a diverse young grassroots campaign against the current incumbent Democratic congressman, former state Assemblyman Jimmy Gomez. If elected in the fall, he will become one of the youngest people ever elected to the Congress since William C.C. Claiborne of Tennessee was elected at the age of 22 in 1798 and Elise Stefanik of New York was elected at the age of 30 in 2014.

Wednesday’s Morning Scoop was made possible by Elena Neale, Brandon Walker, Gigi Foster, Duane Murphy, and the CMN staff. Did you know it’s possible to fail art class? We learned the hard way. So much for an “easy” class.
