States Sue Trump Over School Lunch Changes
Several states and advocacy organizations are suing Trump for rolling back Obama-era nutrition standards for school lunches. The lawsuit, filed on Wednesday, will argue that nutrition in school lunches promotes the health and safety of students, especially those who rely on school lunches as their main source of nutrition. The standards changed under the Trump administration appear to be the allowed sodium intake and flavored versus nonfat milk. Advocates of nutritional lunches say this is illegal, while the administration says that these standards were placing an unfair burden on school districts.

Mar-A-Lago Security Breach Investigation Continues
On Monday, the woman who entered the Mar-A-Lago, President Trump’s private club, carrying two Chinese passports and malware appeared in court. The intruder, Yujing Zhang, was charged with entering a restricted area and making false statements to a federal officer. As Zhang’s story changes, the real concern of this tale is the apparently lax security of the club, which Trump is known to frequent. On Wednesday, the president responded to the intrusion saying, “No, I’m not concerned at all.”

Mormons to Allow Children of Same Sex Parents into the Church
The Mormon Church will now allow children of same-sex marriages to be baptized and no longer categorize members of same-sex marriages as “apostates,” in reversal of a controversial 2015 policy. Some see this as a major step for the LDS Church in the treatment of LGBTQ people, while others are saying it’s a step for their children but not same-sex couples themselves.

A Majority of Americans Support Progressive Policies Nationwide
According to a late March 2019 CNBC All-America Economic Survey of almost 1,000 American adults, the United States is moving center-left on a wide variety of economic and political issues impacting their own personal lives. While the country has become more socially liberal on sociocultural issues such as LGBTQIA+ rights, abortion, cannabis legalization, and affirmative action for women as well as non-white persons of color, favorability for progressive fiscal policies are slowly rising.
