The Election Isn’t Over
- The Georgia gubernatorial race is possibly headed for a runoff if no candidate receives 50 percent of the vote. Republican candidate Brian Kemp, who has just resigned his position as Georgia’s secretary of state, has a razor-thin lead with 50.3% of the vote. As votes are still being counted, if Kemp’s lead drops below 50 percent than Georgians will get a do-over vote on December 4.
- Florida is facing possible recounts for governor, Senate, and agriculture commissioner.
- Ballot initiatives for electoral reform and voting rights expansion won big in the midterms.
- The country is still reeling over the historical diversity of this year’s candidates — here are some of the firsts.
- Not election-related: Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh took his seat on the court yesterday. Meanwhile Christine Blasey Ford, the woman who accused Justice Kavanaugh of sexual assault, is still being threatened and has not been able to return to her work as a professor at Palo Alto University.
