Denver Teachers to Go on Strike
Thousands of teachers in Denver will be walking out today for the first time in 25 years. The strike comes after the teachers’ union was unable to negotiate better pay for all teachers in Denver Public Schools. Yes, this did just happen in L.A. and it may be about to happen in Oakland, Calif. too.

Sen. Amy Klobuchar Announces Presidential Campaign
Yesterday, Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota became the latest politician to announce her campaign for the Democratic nomination in 2020. Klobuchar will be branding herself as a working class Midwesterner, giving her announcement at an outdoor event in heavy snow. While some praise Klobuchar’s warmth and hospitality, others say that behind the scenes she is not so nice.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Pushes for Green New Deal in Congress
On Thursday, Feb. 7, New York City Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez joined Massachusetts Senator Jeff Markey in Washington, D.C. to introduce a public policy proposal to combat both man-made climate change and create millions of jobs with better wages as well as benefits to reduce income inequalities. Called the Green New Deal, co-sponsors of the resolution in the House of Representatives include California Congressman Ro Khanna, Colorado Congressman Joe Neguse, Washington Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal, and Wisconsin Congressman Mark Pocan. Co-sponsors in the Senate include 2020 contenders such as California Senator Kamala Harris, New Jersey Senator Corey Booker, New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, and Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren.
