Ethiopian Airlines Jet Crashes, No Survivors on Boeing 737
On March 10th, an Ethiopian Airlines jet, which was supposed to land in Nairobi, Kenya, crashed shortly after its take-off from Addis Ababa the capital of Ethiopia. It was reported that all 149 passengers, and eight crew members did not survive the crash. Amongst the victims, it has been reported that 32 Kenyans, 18 Canadians, 8 Americans, and 7 British nationals were tragically killed. Read more in Erin Whitten’s report for CMN.

Venezuela Suffers Five Day Blackout
Today marks the fifth day that Venezuela’s power system has been down, leaving the whole country including the capital, Caracas, completely without power. The country has experienced serious political and economic turmoil leading up to the blackout, which shows no sign of ending.

Finnish Government Resigns Over Healthcare Failure
The entire Finnish government resigned last week, including the country’s Prime Minister Juha Sipila. Their resignations follow the failure to achieve one of the administrations main policy goals: welfare and healthcare reform. Like many countries, Finland has an increasing elderly population that has put strain on the country’s relatively successful healthcare and welfare systems. Although the government officials who have resigned will continue in their positions until April, these resignations are a show of “political responsibility,” which is uncommon in today’s political environment.

Iowa Caucus Shows Strong Approval Ratings for Trump
The first official step to the 2020 presidential election, the Iowa Caucus, took place last week. According to a CNN poll, President Trump has an 81% approval rating from Iowa Republicans, but 40% hope he will have a challenger in 2020 and another 41% say they hope he does not. For the Democrats, Bernie Sanders was supported by 25% of Iowa Democrats, while former Vice President Joe Biden received 27% support.

Album Review: Ivor Lane’s Postplay EP
Generally, when I review albums, it’s usually music of my own choosing. Today, I have been sent an early digital copy of Ivor Lane’s EP Postplay, set for release on March 29, 2019. I have never heard of Ivor Lane, but based on a press release it could be interesting. Their music is described as “inspired by 90’s shoegaze music, most notably Slowdive for the texture and sounds in the songs, and folk singers such as Nico for my vocal performance and soul bearing lyrical content.” Read more in Kevin Ashley’s review for CMN.
