Thursday Scoop: Judgment Day
Kavanaugh-Ford Hearing Ensues on Senate Floor
There are high stakes today on Capitol Hill as Christine Blasey-Ford begins her testament against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, set for 10 A.M. today. The hearing comes after weeks of deliberation from Ford and her lawyer, during which two other women have stepped forward and made similar accusations against the judge.
Ford has alleged that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her while at a high school party decades ago. Kavanaugh has consistently denied the allegations, echoed by his Republican peers, stating that Ford’s claims are just a “smear campaign.”
Today, Ford stands before a Senate committee of 11 Republicans and 10 Democrats, who will evaluate her testimony. The public hearing could determine the fate of Kavanaugh’s nomination, and whether President Trump will be able to fill a conservative seat on the SCOTUS bench. The committee will also hear Judge Kavanaugh’s defense.
Childish Gambino Postpones the Rest of ‘This is America’ Tour
Rapper and comedian Donald Glover, known by his artist name Childish Gambino, has postponed the rest of his performances on his North American tour. LiveNation reported to USA Today that Glover has been ordered to move his shows to a later date following a foot injury.
Glover reportedly broke his foot during a concert in Dallas, Texas on Sunday. Not only was he forced to cut that set early, but the injury also prevented him from performing at the Austin City Limits music festival. He is still set to perform at the Voodoo Experience in New Orleans on October 27.
The west coast leg of the ‘This is America’ tour has been moved to December.
Ohio University Students Take Action Amidst Growing Sexual Assault Reports
Just four weeks into the semester, local and campus police at Ohio University (OU) have received about a dozen sexual assault reports from students.
Sexual assault is a serious matter and students at OU are speaking out about it. The university’s Panhellenic Council has been a prominent voice concerning the matter this past week. Greek houses on campus were draped with bed sheets bearing quotes about consent such as, “No does not mean convince me,” “Intoxication is not an invitation,” and simply “No means no!”
The students in Athens have also made an effort to ensure that campus resources are available for anyone who feels unsafe.

Last But Not Least: Trump Says #MeToo Is ‘very dangerous’ for Powerful Men
President Trump defended SCOTUS nominee Brett Kavanaugh Wednesday, adding the #MeToo movement is “very dangerous” and unfairly threatens powerful men. The Washington Post reports, “Trump’s expansive argument cast doubt on the credibility not only of the three women who have accused Kavanaugh of sexual assault, but also on scores of other women who have claimed sexual abuse by prominent men, including the president himself.”
Thursday’s Morning Scoop was made possible by Tamia Heard, Natalia Kolenko, and the CMN Staff. “Jetsetting Journalists” is a good premise for a movie, right? Or maybe a sitcom? Who knows, this is why we didn’t become screenwriters.
