The big story…

At Least 13 People Killed in a Shooting in Thousand Oaks, CA

Sometime before midnight local time, a gunman opened fire in the Borderline Bar & Grill in Thousand Oaks, CA just 40 miles west of LA. The bar was having “college night,” a popular event for local college students including students from Pepperdine University, when the gunman entered, killing at least 13 people including a sheriff’s sergeant and himself. Bar patrons used bar stools to smash windows and help over 35 people escape. Police are still unsure of the motivations behind the shooting. Stay tuned for updates as this is a developing story.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions Forced Out

Attorney General Jeff Session’s resigned Wednesday at the request of the president, ending the dramatic tenure of the Trump loyalist. Session’s relationship with the president was ruined when he recused himself from control of the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. A Justice Department official has said that Matthew G. Whitaker, Sessions’ chief of staff, will replace Sessions and oversee the special council probe into the 2016 presidential interference by the Russians.

Bryce Harper has rejected the biggest free agent contract from the Washington Nationals for $300 million over 10 years. Therefore, Harper will likely be leaving the team but it’s still unclear where he’ll go.

The Girl Scouts Are Suing the Boy Scouts

The Girl Scouts of the United States of America are suing the Boy Scouts of America over a name change. The BSA announced eariler this week that they would be dropping the “boy” from their name in an effort to attract more female scouts. The GSUSA then filed a trademark infringement lawsuit saying that this name change would “cause confusion among the public, damage the goodwill of GSUSA’s Girl Scouts trademarks, and erode its core brand identity,” while also marginalizing the movement.
