Flooding in Midwest Kills 2, No Sign of Stopping
More than 8 million people in the Midwest and Mississippi River Valley are under a flood warning. This flooding even created numerous islands throughout Nebraska and could get worse before it gets better. CNN reports, “‘This really is the most devastating flooding we’ve probably ever had in our state’s history, from the standpoint of how widespread it is,’ Gov. Pete Ricketts said Monday.” The flooding has killed two people in Nebraska and one in Iowa. Ricketts adds at least one person is still missing in Nebraska.

New Zealand Prime Minister Vows to Never Say Shooter’s Name
Following the Christchurch shootings, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has promised not to say the gunman’s name to purposefully deny him the fame and notoriety he seeks. In a meeting with Parliament she said, “I implore you, speak the names of those who were lost rather than the name of the man who took them. He is a terrorist. He is a criminal. He is an extremist. But he will, when I speak, be nameless.”

U.K. Speaker to Block Third Vote on Theresa May’s Brexit Deal
The House of Commons Speaker John Bercow said yesterday that Prime Minister Theresa May can not present her Brexit plan to Parliament again unless there are substantial changes. This likely ends May’s hope of ever passing this deal as she will be unable to present her deal again for a vote this week. Bercow’s motion apparently surprised the PM who will now have to seek a Brexit delay from the E.U.

It was a sad day a few weeks ago when I found out that my local record store in Towson, Maryland, was closing its doors. Since all the CDs in their inventory were now being sold at cheap prices, I ran down there and picked a few from every genre. While I was able to score some great records like High ‘n’ Dry by Def Leppard and 1999 by Prince, I took a second to look at the used CD section. Read more in Tim Coffman’s review for CMN.
