Tuesday Scoop: Justice Kavanaugh, I Presume?
Welcome to the Morning Scoop for July 10, 2018. Today, we have SCOTUS news, an update on the turmoil in Britain and that sneaky IHOP move. And there is good news for those 12 Thai soccer players and their coach this morning.

And the SCOTUS Goes to… Brett Kavanaugh!
President Trump has nominated Brett Kavanaugh for the U.S. Supreme Court, setting up a potentially heated confirmation hearing in the Senate.
SIKE! IHOP Isn’t Actually Changing Its Name
CNN reports, “If confirmed, Kavanaugh would replace a frequent swing vote on the bench, retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy, who often sided with his liberal colleagues on issues such as abortion, affirmative action and LGBT rights.”
Kavanaugh is a stalwart conservative who, if confirmed, could shape the direction of the court for years to come. “The nomination of Judge Kavanaugh comes after a selection process marked by an historic degree of transparency,” according to a White House statement, “including the President’s public disclosure of a list of 25 highly qualified potential nominees to the Supreme Court.”
British Government in Turmoil Days Before Trump’s Visit
UK Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson resigned yesterday, the latest cabinet member to quit over Prime Minister Theresa May’s Brexit plan, which critics say doesn’t make a clean break from the European Union.
Just a day earlier, Brexit Secretary David Davis and his junior minister Steve Baker also resigned, throwing May’s government into turmoil just a few days before President Trump is set to visit London, a trip which is expected to spark huge protests.
The president leaves today for a European trip to Brussels, London, Glasgow, and Helsinki. He will talk with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg in Brussels, and then sit down with Russian president Vladamir Putin in Helsinki.
SIKE! IHOP Isn’t Actually Changing Its Name
It’s been a long month since IHOP announced its controversial name change to “IHOb,” and understandably, the reactions were overwhelmingly negative. However, on Monday, the company shared on social media that its time as the International House of Burgers was all a ruse.
“We’d never turn our back on pancakes (except for that time we faked it to promote our new burgers),” the company shared on Twitter. CMN’s has all the details in her story.
Today in a Tweet
Twitter freaked out for a minute there, but everything seems OK now.
Last But Not Least: A Birthday Roast of Jack White’s ‘Boarding House Reach’
Happy Birthday, Jack White. But not too happy.
In honor of Jack White’s 43rd birthday yesterday, CMN’s Nicole Kitchens did the inconceivable: blatantly roasting his new album “Boarding House Reach,” in hopes that “if Jack ever reads this ill-written review (fingers crossed, everyone) maybe it’ll get through to him.”
Let’s all get emotional with Nicole right here.
