Tuesday Scoop: What Brett did in the ’80s
Kavanaugh Investigation Widens
A host of new developments in the ongoing Brett Kavanaugh confirmation/investigation have come to light in the past 24 hours. Here’s a quick look:
– Text messages from a Yale classmate of Kavanaugh’s suggest he wanted to refute the claims by Deborah Ramirez of his drunken behavior at a college party before they went public.
– Kavanaugh and some Yale classmates were reportedly involved in a bar fight following a UB40 concert in September 1985, in which the nominee mistook another man for the band’s singer.
– Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake — a driving force behind the FBI investigation into Kavanaugh’s past behavior — said during an appearance at St. Anslem College (in New Hampshire, cough cough), he thought the investigation would take no more than a week. It’s looking like it’s going to drag on much longer than that.
Tropical Storm Rosa Sweeps Southwest
Tropical Storm Rosa made landfall in Mexico’s Baja California Monday evening, drenching the area’s deserts, which are unaccustomed to such weather.
CNN reports, “The storm will douse Baja California with 3 to 6 inches of rain, with some spots getting up to 10 inches, the National Hurricane Center said.”
As the storm moves up the coast, it will also dump two to four inches of rain in Arizona with up to six inches in the mountains of Arizona. While this kind of weather is unusual for the area, heavy rain events have increased over the last few years.
Catholic University Suspends a Dean Over Kavanaugh Tweet
The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. suspended the Dean of its Social Service School, Will Rainford, after he publicly tweeted a controversial comment regarding one of Supreme Court Justice nominee Brett Kavanaugh’s alleged accusers, Julie Swetnick.
The tweet questioned whether Swetnick, who is three years older than Kavanaugh, would have been hanging out with freshmen boys in high school. Students protested and presented a list of demands to the school’s administration.
Duane Paul Murphy, who attends Catholic, covered the story.

Last But Not Least: Jemele Hill Joins ‘The Atlantic’
After almost 12 years with ESPN, former host and columnist, Jemele Hill, has found a new home. The Atlantic’s editor-in-chief announced on Monday that the sports journalist is joining the magazine as a staff writer.
Hill recently parted ways with ESPN after being suspended last year for violating the company’s social media policy by posting a series of tweets involving President Trump. She has become one of the most well-known journalists in sports media because of her willingness to tackle the intersection of sports and politics.
CMN’s Tamia Heard has all the details in her report.
