Wednesday Scoop: 30 Inches of Rain?
Evacuations Continue as Hurricane Florence Turns South
The latest models tracking Hurricane Florence show the massive storm turning slightly south toward South Carolina and Georgia, where large-scale evacuations are taking place. Florence is expected to come ashore as a Category 4 Hurricane, with winds near 140 mph.
In addition to ferocious winds, the storm is expected to bring catastrophic rainfall when it hits lands and stalls sometime early Friday morning. Parts of the Carolinas, Georgia, Virginia and potentially Tennessee are forecast to receive anywhere from 15 to 20 inches of rain, and up to 30 inches is some areas.
“This will likely be the storm of a lifetime for portions of the Carolina coast,” the National Weather Service in Wilmington, North Carolina, said in its forecast.
US News Best Colleges List has Wide Impact
The Washington Post reported that U.S. News and World Report released its annual college and university ranking yesterday. The list has become the gold standard of college rankings and has a big impact on where students apply.
The number one spot on the national university list was claimed by Princeton University for the seventh consecutive year while Williams College clenched the number one spot on the liberal arts list for the fifteenth consecutive year.
“Factors in the rankings include graduation and retention rates, surveys of college officials and high school counselors, spending on faculty and selectivity in admissions,” the Post wrote. Go here to see where your college ranks.
