EU Agrees to Brexit Delay, But Not to May’s Request

EU leaders met in Brussels on Friday to discuss the Brexit situation. Many saw the meeting itself and what happened in it as a public show of the EU’s loss of confidence in British Prime Minister Theresa May. May attended the summit to request a Brexit extension from March 29 to June 30, following Parliament’s vote against leaving the EU with no deal and again rejecting May’s Brexit plan. Instead, the EU gave May two deadlines: leave the EU on May 22 with the original Brexit deal or pick a new path by April 12.

Former President Jimmy Carter Becomes Oldest Living President

On Friday, Jimmy Carter became the oldest living U.S. president, surpassing George H.W. Bush’s record at 94 years and 172 days old. People are taking this moment to consider the accomplishments of Carter’s life for the 38 years since he served in the Oval Office. For instance, his work with Habitat for Humanity, winning the Nobel Peace Prize, and writing more than 30 books.

The College of St. Joseph to Close 

The College of St. Joseph is likely to close its doors for the final time in May. Despite efforts to increase enrollment, the school is suffering from escalating demands from its accreditor. St. Joseph is the second college in Vermont to close this month and one of the many small, private New England colleges to close its doors in the last year.
