49 Killed in Mosque Attacks in Christchurch, New Zealand

Yesterday, at least 49 people were gunned down in attacks on two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand. The country’s prime minister, Jacinda Ardern, has called the attacks an act of terrorism and extremism. Three men and one woman have been arrested, and one of the men has been charged with murder and will appear in court on Saturday. The meticulously planned mass shooting, which also involved two explosive devices, is unprecedented in the relatively peaceful nation of New Zealand.

U.K. to Ask E.U. for Brexit Delay

After voting not to take a no deal Brexit, the U.K.’s only option now is to delay their departure from the E.U. with E.U. approval. Although an extension is likely possible to obtain, many E.U. leaders want a clear plan on how the U.K. will spend their extra time preparing for Brexit to avoid another no deal situation.

Speaker Pelosi Endorses Lowering the Voting Age

California Congresswoman and Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi publicly came out in support of lowering the legal voting age to 16 years old in a press briefing on Thursday, March 14 on Capitol Hill. Pelosi said that lowering the voting age to 16 years old would further increase youth voter turnout and awareness. Read more in Duane Paul Murphy’s report for CMN.

What Will Become of Students Implicated in Admissions Scandal?

In the aftermath of Operation Varsity Blues, the biggest admissions scam in recent history, Jade Laughlin, daughter of Lori Laughlin, who was charged in the case, has lost her Sephora sponsorship and may lose her status as a student at USC. Colleges who have been tricked into admitting these students under falsified exam scores and academic records now have the difficult task of deciding whether or not to expel the students themselves, which will have to start with determining whether the students knew what their parents were up to.

Album Review: American High’s U.N. Article 14

American High is a rock band from Sacramento, California, making “catchy songs about real life injustices” and “freeform songs.” They are listed as 60’s and punk inspired rock, for fans of the Kinks, Green Day, Blink-182, and The Sonics. I never got into pop-punk, as I prefer the harder side like crust and hardcore, but their style seems like it could be an interesting mixture, so let’s check them out.
