Twin Son of Gay Couple Granted Citizenship
A Calif. federal judge has granted citizenship to a twin son of a gay married couple, ruling that he had the same right to citizenship as his brother. Let’s back up. Andrew, an American citizen, and Elad Dvash-Banks, an Israeli citizen, had two twin boys by way of a surrogate, each boy getting one parent’s sperm. When Aiden, the biological son of Andrew, was born, he was granted automatic citizenship. However, minutes later when Ethan, the biological son of Elad, was born, he was not granted citizenship, so the family took their case to court. The judge ruled on Friday that because the twins’ parents were married at the time of their birth, it does not matter whether Ethan shows a biological relationship to both parents.

In the second day of Pope Francis’ highly anticipated summit to discuss clergy sex abuse, Cardinal Blase Cubich of Chicago called for new, transparent reporting and investigation procedures to handle allegations of abuse. The summit comes after the uncovering of years of sexual abuse allegations in the Catholic Church across North and South America.
