Smaller Tax Refunds Shock Taxpayers

President Trump’s tax overhaul promised relief, but as tax returns start rolling in the reality does not appear so promising for many. Many taxpayers have seen their refunds shrink in comparison to past years or even completely disappear. According to the New York Times, “The smaller checks, in some cases, stem from the loss of certain deductions. For others, it’s because less money is being withheld from their paychecks.” So, although refunds are smaller, taxpayers are likely paying less over all.

After closing its doors in 2017, the makers of Toys R Us are hoping to come back as a new brand called “Tru Kids.” Former execs say they hope to have stores open before the next holiday season.

The King of Thailand has deemed his sister Princess Ubolratana Mahidol’s run for prime minister unconstitutional. After aligning herself with the Thai Raksa Chart party, the princess became an immediate frontrunner during her hours-long candidacy.

Trump Not Happy with Deal But Avoids Mention  of Veto

President Trump said Tuesday he is not happy with the border security deal made by congressional negotiators, suggesting it may not include requirements he wants for a border wall. CNN reports, “‘Am I happy? The answer is no, I’m not. I’m not happy,’ Trump said when questioned about the agreement during a meeting of his Cabinet at the White House. He said he was still studying the details of the agreement.” However, Trump has not said he would veto the deal, and has alternative methods set up to still get a wall built.

Instagram Influencers Are Advertising the FAFSA

The U.S. Department of Education has commissioned several Instagram influencers to promote the FAFSA to their followers. Using this unorthodox approach, the Department of Education hopes to increase application rates for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid using the hashtag #ButFirstFAFSA.
